観月讃仏会

As it follows the old lunar calendar, Toshodaiji Temple’s ceremony of the mid-fall harvest moon can fall anywhere between mid-September and early October. During this period, a usually inaccessible garden is opened to the public, boasting a variety of fall flowers in bloom. The priests chant Buddhist sutras while conducting memorial services for the temple’s founder. In the evening they perform a tea ceremony for the moon.
