Plum Blossom Festival
梅まつり
In early spring, Tsukigase is one of the best places in Nara to view plum (“ume”) blossoms. The flower is often mentioned in Japanese haiku or renga; it is also said to offer protection against evil and is usually planted in the northeast of a garden. The pink, red, and white blossoms have a very subtle, refreshing fragrance. This festival, held in Tsukigase, is near a lake and is an idyllic way to welcome spring while visiting Nara.
