Visit Nara

This small, traditional restaurant perfectly illustrates the Japanese concept of “kodawari,” which could translate as passion and attention to detail. The chef grows his own vegetables on his farm in Ikoma, deals directly with farmers and fishermen for ingredients and even makes the unique ceramic serving dishes. There are private tatami rooms, but a seat at the counter gives a good view of the chef at work. On Sundays, the restaurant is closed, but visitors are welcome to visit the farm, help with the harvesting or fire up the kiln, in return for a free lunch.
