Visit Nara

Renowned for night views over the Nara basin and the lights of Osaka, Mt Ikoma is accessible by cable car from Toriimae Station. In summer, it’s a good location to see the fireworks festivals across Nara and Osaka. In spring, it’s a very popular picnic spot, dotted with cherry trees. Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park entertains children at the top of the mountain, and Hozanji Temple is a little further down. After WWII, the town around the temple flourished with amusements, geisha and a red light district. Now, it’s strictly cafes and ryokan, but the narrow winding streets retain their retro charm.
