Visit Nara

This photogenic house and sake factory was established in the early Edo period. Built in the mid-eighteenth century, the grounds are quite grand, reflecting the success of the family business. In most merchant houses, the second floor is a simple loft for storage or apprentice’s quarters, but here there are spacious sitting rooms. Unfortunately, you cannot visit the factory without prior arrangement, but you can see parts of the old house including the original kitchen; the friendly staff are happy to guide you through a free tasting of several varieties of sake.
