Visit Nara

The store takes its name from the 150 year old kura or storehouse, in front of the store, which the owner now uses as his workshop. Working mainly with cedar and cypress, he crafts wooden decorations, furniture, toys and beautiful lights, many accented with washi paper. After a career as an award winning TV commercial director in Tokyo, a trip to Yakushima with its ancient cedar forests prompted him to change his life. He built a log house in the mountains in Nara, then started to create wooden objects, before finding this space in Hase to craft full time. Smaller items, decorated with typical Nara motifs like deer and autumn leaves, make good souvenirs.
