Visit Nara

A small, free museum on the edge of Naramachi, this is a good starting point if you have an interest in Nara’s crafts. There are English explanations of the key items like calligraphy brushes, Akahada pottery, wooden masks, tea whisks and hand woven hemp cloth, and there are fine examples showing the history of these arts. There is a shop selling local crafts and souvenirs and an indoor and outdoor rest area with plenty of seating, bathrooms and free pamphlets on local events.
