古民家 大森の郷

To experience real village life, you can stay at this beautiful restored Meiji era house in the mountains above Totsukawa. The restoration was assisted by Japan culture writer Alex Kerr. There are two simple but stylish rooms for rent, plus large living areas. The house is self-catering, though bread and other supplies can be delivered. Modern facilities including Wi-Fi make the experience comfortable. The village and house are 40 minutes' walk from Totsukawa’s main bus stop, but one of the locals can pick you up with some advanced notice. Guests can try local activities such as sushi making, farming and fishing. Just near the house is a former school, now preserved as a museum, which is famous for its Bon-dance on August 14.
