Visit Nara

This event has been held on the 3rd Sunday of October at Uda Mikumari-jinja Shrine for over 1200 years. Once a year, a female god is enshrined here along with its usual male resident. The lady deity is brought in on a 12 km journey through the streets in a one-ton omikoshi, or portable shrine, borne on the shoulders of the parishioners. The high energy procession is accompanied by taiko drumming.
