This popular restaurant near Gojo station specializes in kakinoha sushi, the local specialty. Slices of lightly vinegared mackerel and salmon on rice are wrapped in a persimmon leaf to preserve the freshness. While there are branches across Nara, this is the flagship, with a large souvenir area, a family style restaurant and private dining rooms upstairs. They offer lunch sets with udon or soba noodles, local pickles and kakinoha sushi. The pictures on the menu make it easy to order. You can also get sushi and snacks to take out, if you want to take a picnic lunch down to the Yoshinogawa riverbank.
