Fukunishi Washi Honpo

福西和紙本舗

The Fukunishi family have been making washi paper here the same way, using locally grown mulberry bark and the pure waters of Yoshinogawa River, for six generations, and are the official washi paper suppliers to the Imperial Household Agency, the Smithsonian and the British Library, thanks to the fine texture and durability of their papers. It is possible to try making paper, if you book in advance. The ryokan around Mt Yoshino can make a reservation for you. The best way to reach the workshop is by bus or taxi (there is no parking in the area). Just ask anyone in the village for directions; the Fukunishi family is very well known.
