Sakuramotobou Temple

櫻本坊

Founded by Emperor Tenmu in the 7th century this temple is unique in that it combines elements of Shinto, Buddhism and Shugendo. The onsite treasure hall, which is only open in April and November, houses treasures and artifacts telling the story of the temple's history. The temple is also home to the country's oldest statue of Ganesha. Once a year on October 1st, a ceremony is held in honor of Ganesha.
