Sometimes called Mt Mimuro, Mt Miwa is a sacred mountain and serves as the honden or main hall of Ohmiwa Jinja Shrine. It is one of the oldest sacred sites in Japan, pre-dating organized religion. You can climb the mountain, but you need to get permission at the office of Saijinja Shrine. They don’t take applications after 2pm as you need to leave the mountain by 4pm.
